Sad passing of Wolfgang Srb

Sad passing of Wolfgang Srb

It is with deep sadness that the FIM Europe has to announce that Mr Wolfgang Srb suddenly passed away on the 1st of June.

Born on August 19th 1948 in Vienna, he was passionate about all aspects of motorcycling, above all of the Motocross discipline. His initiative to work with a complete dedication for developing the MXGP World Championship was paramount in the success of the series.

Srb spent his youth as a keen rally car racer and avid motorsport fan. He approached to the world of motorbikes in the early eighties as a Sporting Steward of the Austrian Federation, attending the FIM Motocross World Championships to support fellow countryman and 1984 and 1985 FIM Motocross 250cc World Champion Heinz Kinigadner as a member of the jury.

In late 1984 he joined the FIM Motocross Commission. In 1987 Srb was already an instructor at seminars for aspiring FIM officials before being elected CMS Vice President in 1989, promoted to CMS President in 1993 and then to CMS Director from 2011 to 2014.

From 2002 to 2006 he was FIM Europe Vice President and in 2014, on occasion of the Congress in Krakow, he was elected FIM Europe President, holding the position until late 2018.

In 2019 he was appointed Honorary FIM Europe President.

He worked with passion and professionalism, creating strong relations in the FIM Europe. The entire FIM Europe family extends its condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.
