Mini Road Racing European Championship: Italy crowned 2023 champions The Mini Road Racing European Championship was back in action for a weekend full of excitement. If the 2022 edition was hosted by the “Cathedral of Speed”, the TT Assen in The Netherlands, this year the event took place at Circuito Internazionale D’Abruzzo, in Italy. The Championship aims to create opportunities for young riders to demonstrate their qualities. The Mini Road Racing is a fundamental step for the future motorcycling stars: it is a great platform for up-and-coming young road racers to hone their craft. Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup: Ercolani and Manso come out on top in Catalunya’s frantic races In the second round of the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup Italy’s Emiliano Ercolani increased his title lead with another masterful victory in Race 1 at the Circuit of Barcelona-Catalunya, while Brazil’s Gustavo Manso finally took to the top step in Race 2. The first race of the day saw more incredible racing among the youngest riders in the paddock as the R3 bLU cRU European Championship competitors vied for the podium places. Mallorca’s Marc Vich took the early lead, but he was quickly passed by a determined Aldi Satya Mahendra before the pair were joined by Brazilian battlers Manso and Kevin Fontainha. Women’s European Championship: the season kicked off in Italy With the first round out of six, the Women’s European Championship kicked off at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, Italy. Race 1 Starting from the pole position, Roberta Ponziani ruled by trying to gain a margin over her pursuers.  Beatriz Neila Santos finished five tenths behind: the reigning champion tried to win, but had to settle with the second place, ahead of Sara Cabrini, third. Rookie Natalia Rivera was only 57 thousandths off the podium, but made her debut with an excellent fourth place ahead of Aurelia Cruciani, fifth at the chequered flag. Northern Talent Cup: Levin Phommara claims a double win at the Cathedral of Speed The TT Assen was the perfect venue for the first seasonal race of the Northern Talent Cup, racing the opening round with the Superbike World Championship. Race 1 Swiss rider Levin Phommara (Team Phommara) claimed the first victory of the season in style at the famous TT Circuit Assen, finishing ahead of home hero Jurrien Van Crugten (BB64 Academy) and his brother, Lennox Phommara (Team Phommara), whom he beat by a whopping 25.303s in what proved to be a fascinating first encounter of the 2023 Northern Talent Cup. Conditions were tricky as moments before the race start the rain began to fall, with veterans and front row starters Rocco Sessler (MCA Racing) and Julius Frellsen (MCA Racing) dropping down the running order as the race progressed. Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup: plenty of drama as R3 bLU cRU European Championship enjoys first races The TT Circuit Assen played host to the first round of the 2023 Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Championship, and two exciting and dramatic races were put on by the 19 young riders contesting the event. Italy’s Emiliano Ercolani was the winner of Race 1, and Race 2’s victor was Brazil’s Gustavo Manso during the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship’s Pirelli Dutch Round. Sunny skies and pleasant temperatures greeted the R3 paddock on Saturday morning for the opening race and the riders prepared for battle at the technical Dutch track. Bad luck hit Colombia’s Jeronimo Gonzalez when he went down on the warm-up lap and was unable to start, and Brazil’s Gustavo Manso was also forced to miss the first race due to extended medical checks following a crash on Friday. Stock™ European Championship will run in a separate class in 2023 Following to the high number of applications from prospective competitors in the Moto2™ European Championship, the Finetwork FIM JuniorGP™ World Championship has therefore decided to run the Stock™ European Championship as a separate class in 2023. This new Championship will comprise seven races, one per event, and use a single tyre manufacturer. As a new category, the Stock™ ECh will create a great opportunity for the grid to showcase their skills, taking their own race wins and podiums. Between the 15th of February and the 15th of March, applicants whose place on the grid has already been confirmed will be able to formalise their application and assure their place on future Entry Lists. With the birth of the Stock™ ECh, there will now be three European categories in the Championship: Moto2™ ECh, ETC and Stock™ ECh.
