The riders of the FIM Europe Vintage Road Race Championship gathered at the Sachsenring circuit, which in just three weeks’ time will host the German round of the 2018 Moto GP. In a wet qualifying session 2016 Champion Peter Howarth was the fastest and took the pole position on his TZ350 Yamaha, closely followed by 2017 Champion Richard Peers Jones also on Yamaha. Paul Allender qualified third for a front row of the grid completely British. The conditions were still wet for Race 1 and a close race ensued with Peers-Jones (Class 7b) beating Howarth to the flag for only 0.2 seconds. The fastest lap was set by Howarth on his final lap in his efforts to close the gap from the winner. Swedish Lars Sanberg (Class 5) and his trusty Seeley G50 finished third to complete the podium.
