Sara Trentini in action

British Toby Martyn (Beta) and Italian Sara Trentini (Sherco) topped the first podiums in the Youth and Women class respectively, in Pietramurata, near Trento, North-East of Italy. The 24th edition of the FIM Europe Trials Championship started for the second consecutive year in this closed circuit surrounded by the chain of the Alps.

About 70 riders took part split in the classic four categories: two of them reserved to the “weaker sex”. But absolutely not really weak in this case, because 21 courageous girls rode on the 12 sections posted in the short loop, to be repeated twice,  showing at least the same determination of the males, still dominant in this tough discipline.
Local idol women’s class winner Sara Trentini gave her best in the second loop, after she was tied with German rival Therese Bauml (Ossa) at the turning point: both scored 21 points. Sara was able to close the second part of the race, getting a brilliant “12” , while Therese lost 24 points and slid in second place. In third place German Bianca Huber (Gas Gas) .
Close fight to gain the top in the Youth class between the British winner Toby Martyn and Italian Sergio Piardi (Beta) finished as runner-up. After the first lap, Martyn was leading by just one point (4 against 5). Then he was able even to improve, reducing to 3 errors in the second loop, where Piardi scored 7. Behind this duos British Jack Peace (Gas Gas) climbed the last step of the podium.
In both the International classes crowded by less skilled riders that can face easier sections, Italian riders swept all, occupying the first two places of the rostrum.
Among the girls Veronica Reigl (Beta) won clearly on Alex Brancati (Gas Gas). Third British Alicia Robinson (Beta).
In the Youth’s Mirko Speafico (Gas Gas) beat Marco Gautiero (Scorpa), gaining a consistent lead in the second lap. Behind them Belgian Emile Matthews (Sherco).
Tomorrow the more blazoned riders belonging to the Europe Class, Junior Class and Over 40, to mention the categories valid for the titles, will face 15 hazards twice on the same close circuit.
The second round out of three will be held in Bilstain, Belgium on 15th of August.
